WHAT IS BIOPHILIC DESIGN AND WHY IS IT TRENDING?

Biophilic design is becoming a part of the regular design vernacular, especially in the warmer climates of the USA, such as Las Vegas, California and Arizona.

You may be thinking: What is biophlic design and why is it trending?

Biophilic design is an approach to architecture that seeks to connect the occupants of a building more closely to nature. It's about seamlessly connecting the interior spaces with the outdoor spaces and embracing landscape views, such as mountains, the ocean, lakes and gardens.

Biophilic designed buildings incorporate natural lighting and ventilation as well as natural landscape features to create and foster a more productive and healthy lifestyle. This is achieved by the use of natural materials such as wood and stone, as well as natural shapes and forms in design. These include curves, arches, and interesting irregular shapes. Wood grains, stone textures and patterns also play an important role, as do the colors found in nature, such as earth tones, greens and blues, all of which create a soothing and calming environment.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN IS CONNECTING WITH NATURE

A wall of glass doors open to an outdoor shower palm filled oasis, bringing in natural light and ventilation, whilst becoming an integral part of this primary bathroom. The stone floors with inlay detail, as well as well the reed finish on the ceilings, add natural texture. The round mirrors and the curves on the front of the vanities soften the space, and are integral to the biophilic design style.
